| Local Government
As the major provider of sport and recreation
facilities, local government has a central role to play in
increasing community participation in physical activity.
In recognition of this role, the Office for Recreation and
Sport works in partnership with Councils across the State
to implement a range of initiatives that aim to:
- Improve the quality of sport and active recreation
opportunities available to a community; and
- Increase community participation in sport
and active recreation programs.
Training and development programs supported
by the Office for Recreation and Sport include:
Local
Government Recreation Forum (LGRF)
Supported by the Office for Recreation
and Sport and the Local Government Association (LGA), the
LGRF is a forum for:
- Local Government Professionals who are involved
in the provision of recreation and sport opportunities in
their community. This includes Recreation/Open Space Planners,
Recreation and Sport Facility Managers, Community, Youth,
Recreation and Sport Development Officers
- Other government and non-government organisations
and individuals that have an interest in local government
recreation and sport provision
The LGRF:
- Meets bimonthly to discuss recreation and
sport issues, network and undertake professional development
opportunities
- Is an advocacy body for local government
recreation professionals
- Supports the development of benchmarking
and effective practices in local government recreation and
sport provision
- Promotes a whole of industry and government
approach to recreation and sport provision
- Provides linkage between local governments
in South Australia and nationally
- Is a practical and informed voice to the
Local Government Association (LGA) State and Commonwealth
Government on Local Government recreation and sport issues
of concern
- Provides a forum for external organisations
to inform Local Government of programs or initiatives which
relate to recreation and sport provision

Six-Pack Seminar Series
Proudly supported by the Office for Recreation and Sport,
the Parks and Leisure Australia Six-Pack is a practical series
of presentations and industry workshops aimed at discussing
and addressing pertinent recreation and sport provision issues.
