| Coaches - Maintaining
your coach accreditation
NCAS provides accreditation for a defined period
of time. Check with your State Sporting Organisation to find
out your expiry date. NCAS coaches are required to continue
their education while they are accredited and accrue updating
points by attending appropriate coach education activities.
This helps to ensure that:
- Coaches stay abreast of rule changes in their
sport
- Coaches are aware of the most up-to-date
techniques and coaching and officiating methods
- Coaches create an environment that is safe
for all participants and reduces the likelihood of coaches
becoming involved in legal actions
- Sports and the Australian Sports Commission
(ASC) have an up-to-date register of active coaches
Updating policies and fees
The updating policies of National sporting organisations have
been developed in association with the Australian Sports Commission
(ASC). Each sport has its own sport specific updating policy,
which outlines activities that can be used for updating purposes
and the procedures to be followed to update your registration.
For more information contact your sport’s State Coaching
Director. An updating fee may also be payable for your sport.
Recording updating activities
At the completion of your NCAS course you will receive an
NCAS (or sport-specific) logbook to record all updating activities.
Take this book with you to any updating activity and have
it signed by the course coordinator. If your sport does not
issue its coaches with a logbook, you can record activities
in another manner, but be sure to have entries signed by the
course coordinator. Logbooks and documentation should be sent
directly to your sport. Your updated registration will be
processed only after your sports office sends the Australian
Sports Commission (ASC) your registration form and fee. Also
see the Recognition
of Current Competency section on this website.
The Office for Recreation and Sport offers numerous
courses that your sport may recognise as contributing towards
maintaining your accreditation. For further information regarding
the courses available please click
here.
What happens if you don’t reaccredit?
If you do not complete the updating requirements as specified
by your National Sporting Organisation, you will not be recognised
as an accredited NCAS coach. To re-enter the NCAS, you will
be required to complete appropriate updating activities as
specified by your sport. In some cases, coaches are required
to re-do the appropriate NCAS level course. Special leave
considerations (such as maternity leave and leave related
to employment) are available and should be discussed with
your sport’s State Coaching Director.
