Children & Youth - SportFest

‘be active’ SportFest Forums

The aim of the SportFest is to provide an opportunity for young people involved in sport to come together to develop skills and provide the industry with advice on issues related to sport and more particularly youth participation in sport.

Objectives of the forums include:

  • Promoting young people to the industry by show casing young people’s abilities and contributions at a local or state level
  • Promoting the wider Industry to young people including volunteer and career pathways

Involving Young People

SportFest forums will be successful if young people can identify, connect and relate to the program content. Therefore partnerships have been formed with 3 schools (Pt Lincoln High, Henley High and Mt Gambier High Schools). Each school has established student working parties to develop, facilitate and evaluate SportFest.

The Office for Recreation and Sport and school staff support the working parties, and their contribution and achievement will be recognised by linking their work to curriculum frameworks.

Essentially SportFest will be designed, implemented and evaluated by young people for young people.

Who is SportFest for?

SportFest is for any young person between the ages of 13 - 18 years (high school age), who have an interest in the recreation and sport industry as players, coaches, administrators and or officials. Young people studying Physical Education or similar school curriculums will also be welcome to participate and contribute.

Forums will involve local presenters as well as keynote speakers. The sessions will be designed to allow young people to explore and contribute to issues that effect the provision of sport and recreation to young people on a local, state and national level.
