22 August 2008
Hannah Davis wins BRONZE in Flatwater Women's K4 500m final.
18 August 2008
The Australian team of Hayden Stoeckel, Andrew Lauterstein, Rickard and Sullivan finished 0.70 seconds behind the US to win silver in an Oceania record 3:30.04, also under the old world record.
Australia went into the race as world champions but only as beneficiaries of a US disqualification at the 2007 world championships.
12 August 2008
Megan Jones riding Irish Jester was part of the Eventing Team Jumping SILVER MEDAL Winning Team
12 August 2008
Hayden Stoeckel wins BRONZE in 100m backstroke final
12 August 2008
SASI Swimmer Hayden Stoeckel produced the swim of his life to clock the second-fastest 100 metres backstroke time in history to qualify fastest for today's final.
From Jason Butcher 20 August
Grant Schubert out!
Nothing more to say really, gutted for him, gutted for the Kookaburras and on a selfish note gutted for us the supporters and Australia. The Kookaburras have depth though and they will bring in Smith who is a quality guy, a very good player and just as importantly someone who will do Australia proud. He is a guy who just missed out on the last Olympics and a Kookaburra servant who has regularly missed out on the big tournaments, so the magnitude of this opportunity will not escape him. Good luck Smithy if anyone deserves the opportunity you do.
Smith has been training on the rests days with the Kookaburras so he is here and not totally out of the loop but he has not been living in the athletes village and obviously has not played so I am unsure of how much he has missed and where he is at in terms of being prepared for something like this. Our 17th and 18th players in Beijing which also includes Mowlam have been living in a flash hotel half a km from the grounds with many of the officials who have not been afforded places in the village.
This will be a tough gig for Smith even though he is an experienced player. Coming straight in to an Olympic semi-final against a team of the quality of Spain is no easy task I would suspect.
Time will tell. Apparently he didn’t sleep much last night. Hope he gets some tonight.
We wish Grant the best and our thoughts are with him. He is a true champion of our sport and a fantastic ambassador for Australia and South Australia. He epitomises everything we want our kids to be, his work ethic, courage and honesty are reasons we can all learn from him and look up to him.
As I said before some things don’t happen for a reason, they just happen. It’s how we react that defines who we are. Nothing is surer though than Grant again leading the way.
