FFSA State League Results
SASI finished the season in 2nd position in the FFSA State League and therefore gained promotion to the Premier League for 2009. SASI was competing for the first time in the senior competition and being promoted ahead of former national league team West Adelaide was a great achievement. The SASI Reserves team also finished in 2nd position.
Joseph Costa won the John Aloisi Rising Star Award. The award is presented at the FFSA Awards night to the player voted by the panel to be the states most promising junior. Joseph was also runner up in the State League Player of the Year votes.
Three SASI Scholarship holders have been named in the Australian Under 16 squad to take part in the World Cup qualifiers in Uzbekistan. Nathan Farrell, Chahine Noujaim and Mark Perrone were the players named. Regular Joey’s member Joseph Costa was unable to be considered due to a change in eligibility rulings SASI coach Martyn Crook is also the Joey’s coach.
SASI Coach Steers Qantas Joey's into Finals of Asian Football Federations Under 16 Youth Championships.
After a recent 1-1 draw against Singapore SASI Head Boys Coach Martyn Crook has taken the Australian U16 National Squad (The Joeys) into the Final of the AFF U16 Youth Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In a squad comprising of SASI Scholarship Holders Joseph Costa, Nathan Farrell, Chahine Noujaim and graduate Tedros Yabio, the Joeys have gone through the preliminary stages of the competition unbeaten and are set to play either Malaysia or Bahrain in the final on Saturday.
In earlier outings, Australia defeated Bahrain (2-1), Indonesia (6-0), and Malaysia (4-1).
Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Bahrain are using the competition as is a critical part of the teams preparation for the forthcoming the AFC U-16 Championship which takes place in Uzbekistan from October 4-19, 2008.
