2009 SASI Awards

About SASI - Overview

The South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) conducts programs and services to identify, develop and support athletes with the potential to perform at the highest national and international levels of sport.

Established in 1982, SASI was Australia's first state sports institute. SASI is a South Australian Government initiative, and is a division of the Office for Recreation and Sport.

SASI World Class Training Centre

SASI is a recognised world class training centre and sports institute. SASI conducts, partners and services elite sport programs that provide the daily training environment for world class athletes in some of Australia's most successful programs.

SASI News

MEN'S FOOTBALL

The SASI Men’s Football Team along with new SASI Coach Tony Vidmar was in Canberra last week to participate in the annual Institute Challenge.  The SASI team was crowned 2010 FFA State Institute Challenge Champions at the conclusion of the tournament.

DIVING

SASI athlete Rachel Bugg competed in the Diving Australia Open Championships in Sydney recently.  It was her first major competition since returning to diving a little over 12 months ago. Rachel’s goal was to attain National Development Squad status and to finish in the top 6 overall. She achieved both and that puts her in the running for some international competitions and into the Commonwealth Games trial in July.

 

Revisions to World Anti-Doping Code, International Standards, Come into Force January 1, 2009

Changes to the World Anti-Doping Code come into effect on 1 January 2009, and will impact athletes and support personnel. SASI has accordingly updated its Anti doping Policy.

Key changes include a new Prohibited List and the elimination of abbreviated Therapeutic Use Exemptions; however, all abbreviated Therapeutic Use Exemptions delivered before 31 December 2008 will remain valid after 1 January 2009 for a set period.  For further information regarding the key changes, please see this memo prepared by Dr. Peter Barnes  (2009 changes to wada code 95kb PDF)
