Children & Youth - Schools Network

The Schools Network is a program of the Australian Sports Commission, administered nationally by the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER). Schools Network currently has over 300 member schools in South Australia and 1000 nationally. In South Australia, Schools Network is managed by the Office for Recreation and Sport with support from the Department of Education and Children’s Services (DECS) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).

The Schools Network State Coordinator provides ongoing support to member schools in their efforts to maximise opportunities for students to be physically active and to promote the benefits of physical activity in the wider school community.

Why should schools join the Schools Network?
As a South Australian member of the AASN you will receive the following:

  • Regular e-mail contact from the State Coordinator including research data, web sites, lesson ideas and upcoming member only events and special offers
  • A 'Physical Activity for Children and Youth' pack ideal for promoting the benefits of physical activity, physical education and sport to staff, parent and community groups
  • A folder containing 30 low organisation/high activity games for impromptu breaks, fitness units, warm ups and relief lessons
  • Discounts on ASC and ACHPER resources plus special deals on IDM sporting goods
  • Member only workshops to share planning information and ideas with other schools
  • Ongoing support and links with National and State Sporting Organisations, Local Government, local clubs and associations, ACHPER, CHDF, etc
  • Free resources like ACHPER's Advocacy Kit (upon return of your completed school plan)

As a member you are assisted to:

  • Develop a whole school plan for physical activity, sport, health and physical education
  • Establish cluster or regional support networks
  • Develop leadership and training programs for teachers, students, parents and community members
  • Promote school achievements via workshop presentations, newsletters, awards and articles
  • Be part of pilot projects and special state and national initiatives
  • Adapt Aussie Sport programs like Sport Education in Physical Education Program, & Challenge, Achievement and Pathways in Sport to suit their school
  • Find research and data to support school projects and programs
  • Apply for funding under state recreation and sport grants

How does your school join?
1. Download a Membership Application form at www.ausport.gov.au
2. Complete the Membership Application and return with membership payment ($100 inc. GST, for 2 years) to ACHPER National, 214 Port Road, HINDMARSH, S.A. 5007
3. Complete and return the Planning proforma to ACHPER and receive your ACHPER Advocacy Kit.
