- Overview
The Office for Recreation & Sport is the
lead agency for the implementation of the South Australian
government's policy on recreation and sport.
The Office for Recreation & Sport is a business unit of the SA Government's Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
The Office funds sporting and recreation organisations
and providers, supports state, regional and local associations,
implements policy and programs, leads recreation and sport
planning, manages facilities, provides services for elite
sport and promotes physical activity in all age groups.
Work takes place in three divisions, Venues, Infrastructure and Funding Services, the South Australian Sports Institute,
and Recreation and Sport Development.
The Venues, Infrastructure and Funding Services division
provides a strategic and integrated approach toward the development
and delivery of recreation and sport infrastucture development planning, facilities managment and recreation trails. The division is also responsible for the delivery of grant programs and the managment of the major venues of Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide Superdrome and Santos Stadium.
The South Australian Sports Institute (SASI)
supports and develops high performance sport and sporting
excellence.
The Recreation and Sport Development division
maintains a strong commitment to the development and support
of traditional sport and recreation industry clients as well
as leading the state government's be active program
and Physical Activity Strategy.
Much of the work of the Office takes place in
partnership with other government departments, industry bodies
and State Sport and Recreation Associations. There is also
a long and mutually beneficial partnership with the Australian
Sports Commission.
