  Michael Schetter

Mr Michael Schetter - Director, Recreation & Sport Development

Mike Schetter was appointed as Director of Recreation and Sport Development in 2004.  His Division encompasses Local Government Liaison; Junior Sport and Schools; Volunteer, Officials and Coach Education; Club Development; Indigenous Sports Program; Specific Population (disability, mature age, culturally and linguistically diverse, women) consultants and programs; Business Improvement; Harassment Free Sport and other participation programs as well as the newly formed Physical Activity Branch.

Mike has spent the past nine years with the Office for Recreation and Sport, returning from the Australian Sports Commission in 1996. Immediately prior to this appointment he was the Manager of the Community Participation Branch.  He has extensive managerial and grass roots experience in the education and sport sectors.

After time spent teaching physical education Mike moved into the area of sport development, firstly at a State level and then at the National level with the Australian Sports Commission.  His work during this time was primarily focussed on youth leadership and community development through sport and recreation.

A growing family and lack of beaches resulted in a relocation back to Adelaide where Mike became the inaugural Local Government Liaison Officer for the Office for Recreation and Sport.

Mike’s passion for sport and physical activity is evident in his ‘non work’ hours.  He has competed (and still does) in many sports at a variety of levels and has coaching qualifications in numerous sport and recreational activities.  He also practises what he preaches through his commitment as coach and volunteer in a range of sport administration roles at the ‘grass roots’, junior level within his community.
